Los Angeles nonprofit
Play first.
Then the plan.
Sessions on money, AI and handling pressure, taught through sport, inside the programs people already attend: after-school programs, rec centers, clubs and adaptive programs. No cost to families. Pilot in 2027.
What FSL does
Inside the programs people already attend
Fundamental Sports Labs (FSL) is a Los Angeles nonprofit, a 501(c)(3) founded in 2025. FSL doesn't run its own leagues or events. Instead, in 2027 it will pilot a set of up to six sessions inside the programs people already attend, starting with youth programs such as after-school programs, rec centers, clubs and adaptive programs in South LA and Inglewood.
Each session starts with the sport players already play. Then they use their own game to learn money skills, how to question AI, how to handle pressure and what jobs exist around sports and tech. Trained, screened college students will help teach, and the program's own staff will always stay in the room. In the youth pilot, kids will never open AI accounts, and families will never pay.
How a session works
Every session, three parts
Up to six sessions of 45 to 60 minutes. Two trained, screened college coaches will lead each one, with the program's own staff in the room.
Play
The sport comes first: whatever the program already plays.
Track
Players log their numbers in their own stat tracker: makes, misses, reps and times.
Plan
15 to 20 minutes on money, AI or handling pressure, built from the players' own numbers: a budget, a deal, a prediction to check.
What players learn
Run the numbers
Build a budget from your season's numbers, plan a first paycheck and learn how credit works. Practice reading a deal, and saying no when people ask you for money.
Check the machine
Use AI as a tool, catch its mistakes and keep your information yours. See how AI and virtual reality are changing the game.
Handle the pressure
Practice handling nerves and pressure from coaches, parents and the crowd. Think before you post or film, and learn to spot a scam.
See the whole field
Playing is one job in sports. Explore the others: analyst, athletic trainer, coach, sports media, and the AI and tech jobs behind the game.
Youth safety
How we keep kids safe
The rules every session will follow.
Screened adults
Before working with kids, every FSL coach and volunteer will pass a California DOJ background check and child-abuse reporting training.
Never alone
At least two screened adults at every session, with the program's own staff in the room, and no adult alone with a child out of sight of others.
No AI accounts
No child opens an AI account, and no child's name, face or personal information goes into any AI tool. Kids under 13 use AI only on FSL laptops with no internet connection, or watch a demo an adult runs.
Written permission
Written permission from a parent or guardian to take part, for AI activities and, separately, for any photo.
Skills, not therapy
Coaches will teach skills for handling pressure, not counsel. If a child needs more help, they'll bring in the program's own staff, and anyone can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Nothing to sell
We never send kids to any company, and we take no referral money.
For families
Families never pay
Who we are
A Los Angeles nonprofit, founded in 2025 by a coach, PE teacher and financial coach.
No cost to families
No fees and no tryouts.
Spanish and English
Permission slips, forms, materials and updates will come in both languages.
No stars required
Every skill level is welcome, and kids who would rather not play can be the team's analyst.
What they make is theirs
Your kids will take home their stat sheet and the money plan they build.
You're invited too
We plan a Saturday session where you can see what your kids are learning. The last session will be open to families: each kid will show one call the AI got wrong, their stats and their plan.
Kids will take part through a program they already attend, so FSL can't sign a child up directly. Join the family list and we'll let you know when a pilot site is confirmed.
